Despicable Me 2 has topped the US weekend Movie Chart with a staggering $82.5 million at the U.S. box office. According to Digital Spy, this makes the must-see sequel one of the highest debuts for an Independence Day weekend release.

The movie brings back the voice talents of Steve Carell, Kristen Wigg, Miranda Cosgrove and Russell Brand. This time around we get to see Gru in all his despicable-ness helping the Anti-Villain league take down a criminal mastermind; and who doesn’t love the minions?!

The Lone Ranger had a disappointing second place finish well behind Gru and the minions with $29 million, followed by The Heat, Monsters University and World War Z.

In case you’ve missed it, check out the trailer for Despicable Me 2 for some minion fun.
